COAST MAGAZINE
The Architectural Properties Division was the dream child of Jan
Eric Horn, a Beverly Hills based Coldwell Banker agent. Horn's passion
for good architecture spills out of his conversation with the good-natured
intensity of a sports fan. It's anyone's guess if his exhaustive
knowledge of architects and their work is encyclopedic, photographic,
or both. He brings dead architects to life and living ones to a
par with rock stars and statesmen. Basically, he just makes you
excited to learn more .
It's a chicken and egg thing. Did a love of design make Horn a
great residential agent? Or did his work make him more sensitive
to good design? Whatever the order, the symbiotic relationship was
a win-win for Coldwell Banker.
" I figured, why not turn this knowledge of exceptional architecture
into a formal division of Coldwell Banker” Horn says. “The
company can offer another valuable service to our clients, and we
could build a program that would make our people the go-to agents
for buyers or sellers of these very special homes."
Anyone
enjoying the Coast Highway drive through Laguna Beach in the past
10 years, has probably caught more than a glimpse of this imposing
Italian estate. “It’s so well known now, it’s
considered a landmark in Laguna”, says Nancy. “Brian
Jeannette designed this 12,00-square foot old world “villa”
– complete with elaborate Mediterranean gardens and countless
terraces – to draw people outdoors, as well as to bring those
fabulous views inside.
"Jeannette really kept the focus of his design on the residents
and guests who would be enjoying this made-for-entertainment mecca,"
says Lavigne. "This entry may look like a lush garden to you,
but it also disguises the roof of an eight car subterranean garage.
If you were a guest, you really could say that you can't find your
car, and you need to stay ... Wouldn't you?"
